Lessons in Forgiveness

Lance and I planned to take Sawyer to our favorite little pumpkin patch on Tuesday. It's the place we've taken him to for the past two years. We packed up the car and headed out...and got to the place where our pumpkin patch used to be...yes, USED to be. It was totally empty. I was DEVASTATED. I was angry with myself that I hadn't called to make sure they were still there...sad that Sawyer was SO excited about the "punkin patch" and there was nothing for him to see...it broke my heart.

I looked at Lance and said, "We have to go to WalMart!" So, we went into WalMart and let him pick out a little pie pumpkin. And he was satisfied with that. But I wasn't!

All the way home I told him how sorry I was. "Sawyer, mommy is SOOOOOO sorry that the pumpkin patch was closed."

And do you know what that cute little 2 year old boy said? "It's ok, mama."

No big deal. He was over it. He forgave me. He was smitten with is little pie pumpkin in the backseat.

I was reminded of the child-like faith that Jesus calls us to have. I was reminded of how many times I hold a grudge and become bitter and do not forgive.

I was reminded of how every one of my sins are forgiven and covered by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and how I should be quick to forgive, too.

Before I had Sawyer many of my mommy friends told me that mothering was a sanctifying journey...how right they were! I am so grateful to be able to look through my little boys eyes and learn from him about big issues like forgiveness and trust and obedience. God really can use anyone to speak to our hearts.
