Sawyer: 2 Years, 1 Month

Sleeping:
- Naps? What are those? In the past month his days of not taking a nap far outnumbered his days of taking one....crazy considering how hard he's playing outside.
- He is still sleeping with his paci but isn't allowed to have one otherwise. He's doing really well...he's not even using it at church!
- Sawyer's bedtime is still 8:30 when he naps, 7:30 when he doesn't nap.
- He went through a 2 week period of waking up at 6:00 or 6:30, but for the past week he's been sleeping until almost 8 everyday.

Eating:
- Sawyer is not a huge fan of meat...he'd rather eat fruit and veggies, so I make sure to give him things like black beans, greek yogurt, and peanut butter to make sure he gets his protein.
- Sometimes I think he lives on air because he's quickly outgrowing his 2T clothes (praise the Lord for a friend who had a whole tub of 3T summer shirts for us), but he doesn't eat anything! Apparently that's what 2 year olds do!
- He LOVES "moothies" (smoothies). I usually put spinach, yogurt, an assortment of fruit, and some flax seed in his.
- He thinks that everything I put on his plate is hot. He'll put his hand over every item and say "hot?" He knows the difference between hot and cold, but for some reason still thinks that food is always hot.
- I started giving him water in a big boy cup every so often. He does pretty well.
- This month, I'd say his favorite foods are green peas, broccoli, and hummus.

Talking:
- LOTS of new words/simple sentences this month!
- He's starting to sing along with songs...but when I ask him to sing he'll "sing" oooo ooooh ooooh at different pitches...so cute!

Social Skills:
- We're still working on sharing as Sawyer dislikes seeing anyone play with anything that is his, looks like his, or he wants to be his!
- He really loves Aidan...he likes to take him to different rooms to play, talk to him, read books to him, take him his drink, tell him what to do! LOL!
- His last Toddler Choir meeting was last night. I'm really proud of how much he learned and how much he grew. He's still the youngest one in the class, but he participates and loves going. We'll start up again when school starts!

Playing/Learning:
- He knows the basic colors (red, blue, green, yellow, orange, black, purple, pink) very well.
- He can identify the letters in his name.
- His FAVORITE thing to play with right now is his drum set and he'll make a drum/drumsticks out of everything. He loves music...I definitely prayed that he would love music like me and be able to sing or play an instrument!

Discipline:
- Oh.my...we've had a time this month with discipline.
- On two instances it took him being disciplined 5 or 6 times before he cleaned up his toys.
- We've been putting him in time-out A LOT for having a bad attitude, whining, stomping his feet, etc. One way or another he'll learn that we don't always get what we want, and there's a correct way to behave when that happens.
- Whereas a month ago he would say "sorry" when he disobeyed, now it's apparently a dirty word to him because he will throw a hissy fit when I tell him he needs to say sorry....which leads to more disciplining!
- According to most people who watch him (my parents, church workers) he's delightful...until I come around!
- Lately, every time I discipline him I pray that the Lord would use his.."determination" in a mighty way for His kingdom...I hope that one day Sawyer is a man who stands firm in what he believes and what the Bible says and is not easily swayed by the world.

Spiritual Growth:
- This month he is loving our VBS music (I have it early since I'm teaching a class). He has learned some of the words and sings when we're in the car. His favorite song is "You Make Everything New."
- He learned "This Little Light of Mine" a couple weeks ago. When you sing "Hide it under a bush," he'll yell "OH NO!" So cute!
- We talk a lot about how obeying mommy means that he's obeying God.
- He reminds us to pray sometimes...especially if one of us sits down at the table after we've already prayed.
