The view from our window

The joys of home ownership....

Thankfully, our problem is now solved!

Our problem was a tree root somewhere in the middle of the road. It was clogging a pipe out under the road and it caused water to sit in the pipes right near our house...not a good situation. Our plumber (bless him for being an honest man) suggested that we put in a clean out and then the city would have to come deal with the problem that kept causing us issues every 6 months or so. So, while costly now, it will pay off in the long run.

On my way to the grocery store, I kept thinking about how God uses things like this to teach us. I thought about the roots in that pipe. Roots aren't bad, evil things, in and of themselves. But, when left unchecked, they can cause problems.

Isn't this like our relationship with God?? We want to be in fellowship with Him, but there's all this stuff in the way taking up room in our hearts and minds....hobbies, and tv shows we want to watch, and rooms we want to decorate, and friends we want to hang out with, and things to pin on Pinterest (yes, I'm totally talking about myself)....now, none of these things are evil, per say....but when we let too much in, when we allow these things to take up all of our time and energy, we're not leaving any room for God.

We're still praying and reading our Bible (for 10 minutes because that show is getting ready to come on). The water is still getting through the pipe. We're doing "just enough."

And what happens when we keep doing "just enough?" (Let me tell you...the toilet won't flush and you can't wash clothes) But seriously, our time with God will eventually cease. Quiet times won't happen, prayer becomes a wish list, God gets put on the back burner.

Only when we clean those roots out of our life can we have the relationship with God that he desires for us to have. Only then will we have sweet fellowship with Him, the kind that keeps you talking to Him all day, craving His word.. The kind that makes you want to tell everyone you know about Jesus and the price he paid for your sin and my sin. The kind that brings you to tears because you know where you were then and where you are now.

Sometimes I wonder what the "view from God's window" is...tonight...I hope he sees hearts and lives being cleaned out...
